Bennekerry N.S aims to foster environmental awareness in our pupils as part of their holistic education.

We participate in the Green Schools Programme run by An Taisce. The Green Flag is awarded to schools for work done on improving the environment and increasing awareness of eco-friendly actions. This is an international award and is called the Eco-Flag in other countries.

We are very proud to have been awarded six Green Flags for work done on the following themes:

·       Energy Conservation
·       Water Conservation
·       Green Home
·       Green Travel
·       Biodiversity

Participation in the Green Schools Programme provides opportunities for our pupils to develop decision-making skills, self-confidence and citizenship. It also encourages pupils to work collaboratively towards positive change and to explore many crucial environmental issues which impact our local, national and global communities
